"How you suffered for your sanity"
xxx›My personality goes as follows Adene displays intense patience towards others, in particular to frisky foals that enjoy nothing better than to gnaw constantly on her earpiece. It takes a lot to aggravate this composed mare, and even when annoyed she lacks the capability to hurt those she holds dear.
Adene believes that it is respectful to listen to the words of others, despite whether what they have to say is significant.
Adene rarely loses her cool, even in relatively serious situations involving the ridicule of a close friend or family member.
Adene attempts to see life from both the perspective of the perpetrator and the victim, and assess whether the course of action the offender took was the correct one. If this is not so, Adene would have little hesitation in informing them of their misdeed though would not often (if at all) resort to violence.
Adene treats everyone, whether young or old, sickly of fit with the respect and hospitality; after all are we not all the same on the outside, it is what’s within that counts.
Adene is collected, and has good self control, meaning that she does not often allow herself to become impassioned by a situation or cause without considering the effects her anger might have on those around her.
Though modest, the mare has a sense of dignity about her, meaning that she will not engage in any acts which she considers morally or physically wrong, for fear of disgracing herself.
Though Adene takes the utmost of pride in her rank, she feels no desire to flaunt her status in front of others. She believes that it is both un-necessary and belittling to those who are yet to obtain rank. Most consider her a modest example.
Adene is sociable in a sense that she is well known due to her status, so thus has plenty of opportunities to engage in conversation.
However, she lacks the ability to befriend others and frankly shows little intention to do so. Though she is both kind and doting, an air of mystery often shadows this cautious mare. She prefers to keep to herself, occasionally communicating with those who are close to her. The main reason for this is that she is distrustful to all but a select few.
Adene strives to achieve highly in her work, and hopes to ascend in rank. Determined and willful, Adene is most suited to an ambition such as this.

A contented smile crossed the cream pelted face of the herd’s healer, Adene as the wind stirred the leaf-littered grasslands, individual strands of rich viridian sheaves pirouetting wildly, performing their own little dance, prompting her stomachs gurgling response.
The succulent, ripe green surface, drew streaming from the tips like tiny sparkling crystals lured Adene ever closer, drawing her in like a siren does a vulnerable sailor who succumbs to it’s beautiful yet equally deadly song. The breeze wafted the enticing scent closer to the cream mare’s nostrils, both ebony channels flaring as the musk danced in the wind and hurled past her boldly on its endless course.
Submitting at last to the temptation of a mid-morning snack, the attentive healer trotted tentatively towards her prize as a tracking dog does an unsuspecting hare. Slate grey hooves rose and fell with equal rhythm, never altering pace, constantly cadenced and identical in every precise movement. Cream knees rose to chest height before falling gracefully to the floor, mane flowing like a gentle stream which curves around the gnarled forms of eroded mountains that leer menacingly over its dazzling pool. Sparkling sunlight reflecting off the waters crystalline surface, her mahogany eyes were highlighted with two shimmering white spots, each a petite window to the horses’ mind.
The grass tickled as she loped through it, sampling the air as she went, detecting the faint scents of horses that had passed by a few days prior to her arrival. It was interesting to notice the paths which some herd members preferred to take; Crusader in particular followed a similar route to herself, and she would often find his musk lingering in the air, as if it were waiting for her arrival. As was usual there it was, pungent as always.
The mare slowed as she reached the section of grass she eyed earlier, staring for a moment at the scrumptious bounty that she had been presented with; enthusiastically Adene began to gorge on the buffet, sparing none but a few lucky sheaves that had managed to escape the wrath of her jaws. Her mouth widened, taking in mouthful after mouthful of this succulent snack, grinding the vegetation between elongated molars and swallowing instantaneously before repeating the cycle once again.
Twitch… shuffle … twitch again
The grasslands moved with a frightening unease, as if something dangerous lurked within their thick cloak of emerald green. Attention averted now to her immediate surroundings, Adene peered up, half-chewed stems protruding from her lips. Ears pricked, eyes darting back and forth, the healer surveyed the scene. It seemed fairly calm; could it be that the movement she had sensed had been nothing more than a figment of her imagination? The idea appeared plausible. Standing watch for a moment longer, eventually satisfied that it was safe enough to graze, Adene continued her meal.
The mare gnawed for a moment longer, content that she had consumed an adequate amount of foliage to last her the rest of the day. Flaming amber orbs glared unto the horizon, observing the immediate settings before her. It was morning, it was quiet, peaceable, tranquil. The birds sang their melodic tunes, the swift breeze carrying their enchanting songs in gusts into the depths of her eardrums, soothing the healers mind.
Still, it was incomplete. Still there was something, a vital element that was missing from all of it:
Company. How she longed for it, yet the concept seemed unobtainble. The horse's natural instinct demended companionship, but instinct alone was not the only driving force behind her longing. Adene was plagued with the desire to prove herself, so show her worth to Etta, the mare who had so kindly accepted her into the ranks of Freewind.
Perhaps she would encounter someone soon. « Last Edit: August 14, 2009, 03:40:32 PM by Adene » Logged

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The day seemed quiet for the most part. It was a very nice day, and the wind was comforting as it usually was. Striker found the atmosphere almost too silent now. Well, anything seemed silent to the stallion after having encountered a whole mass of mammoths. It still amazed him how large those creatures were, and yet how passive they were. He felt they wouldn't hurt even a fly that landed on their backs (though they may go after any mosquitoes...). However, he was well aware that they could fight off predators by themselves, at least as long as they weren't too outnumbered. From what his golden eyes had perceived, it would take a lot of power to bring even one of them down.
He was glad to have met them, though. Striker had gained a new experience, and it served him as a learning one as well. His mind pondered where they were now. Whether they had made it to their destination. He wished for their safety, and hoped to meet some of their kind again someday. At least he was also glad he hadn't found anything to be wary of when he had made his search. It still irked him how close wolves may have come to the Freewind borders, and he had made a silent resolve to work harder at securing the borders, even if he was the only one doing so.
Though now... things appeared calm. He could say he almost missed the ruckus of the mammoths. Almost. No, he mainly preferred having this peace and quiet, since it assured him that nothing was amiss in the lands he vowed to protect. And that nothing would risk harming the ones he pledged loyalty to. The only time he felt secure with noise was when training and keeping shape. Otherwise, it was better this way.
He turned his brown and gray body in a different direction he had been going in. Giving a faint snort of determination, Striker galloped off, slowly building his speed until the grass rushed beneath his hooves. The adrenaline began pumping in his veins, urging him forward along the borders of the lands. His eyes darted this way and that, assuring he didn't miss a thing on his patrol. It was imperative that anything even remotely suspicious was investigated. A rustle disturbed his gallop, as though proving his thoughts. He slowed down immediately, turning in a small circle so as to look in the direction he had determined the sound to have come from. Coming to a stop, his brown ears swiveled in hopes of catching something amiss. However, after a few moments, he decided it had been simply a small herbivore. He ventured a bit closer, nostrils flaring. Smelling nothing out of the ordinary, he turned and headed off back onto his patrol.
It wasn't until he turned his head to look deeper into Freewind that his eyes caught sight of a mare. He felt he vaguely recognized her. At least he figured to have seen her before. She seemed to be concentrated on eating the lush grass that grew on these lands. Walking over in a calm manner, Striker could feel his heartbeat slow down and return to it's normal pace. He nodded in a friendly manner at the tan mare. Good day, ma'am, he greeted, his formalities automatically coming forth. I hope all is well today for you. It was also a habit to ask how everyone's day was. After all, he was there to hear any reports of mishaps that may have happened. Logged

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Voraciously the mare munched away on the foliage at her feet, grabbing mouthfuls of emerald sheaves, moist and fresh, grinding them between her yellow-cream incisors with a feverish lucidity, and then gulping them down her oesophagus until they slowly descended into her gut and once again the cycle would repeat itself. Rich strands of grass slithered down her throat, the mare savouring each mouthful as it vanished.
Slowly the hunger that had calumniated inside her began to fade as her stomach swelled with the large dinner she had ingested. Apetite thoroughly gone at this point, the mare snorted through her ebony nostrils, sampling the grass at her feet for any unusual scents she might encounter. Adene's ears pricked as she sourced what she was looking for.
"Good day, ma'am"
The cream mare peered up from her hearty meal; above her stood a pinto stallion, not much older than she, with a perfect ivory blaze adhorning his elongated, typically equinesque muzzle. Another patch, stretching from the junction between his head and neck, to the tip of one wither to the other of pure white, and a third blaketing the majority of his hindquarters and lower back. But above all, the males' most distinquished feature, the part of him which she noticed most, were his sympathetic golden eyes, each sporting a tiny silver highlight.
Thinking back, she seemed to have some vague recollection of him; she was unsure where from, but she was certain that this was not their first encounter. Perhaps he might have been one of the many she had seen venturing back and forth through Freewind from time to time, or taking a casual stroll by the stream. Regardless, she felt immediately comfortable in his presence, a rare occurence for the shy mare.
She had after all longed for company; and it seemed as though she had found it.
"Good day to you sir"" Adene responded, emerging from the daze in which she had been entrenched.
"I hope all is well today for you."
"Oh, it is going well" she replied quickly. "Though I regret to say rather uneventful". the mare added.
This was, she determined, the most conversation she had made ever since that brief encounter with Raindance, the stranded mare who longed for a herd to run with. It felt so good to at last be conversing with fellow equine.
"Might I ask your name?"
Adene wished to better become aquainted with this stallion, after all his presence was reassuring, and strangely welcoming to her (who often veered on the side of caution when approaching strangers). His polite mannerisms pleased her, and his formal tone of voice came as an added bonus.

The thunder, the air, the smell. The blue roan mare could feel she was close. Her blue eyes opened as she was running at a full gallop toward the famed Freewind Herd lands. The wind ran by her mane and tail and through her fetlock fur. The light shined over the silky looking coat that covered her body. She carried the marks under her eyes meaning 'Rain Dance' thus the name she had. The blue colored body with her gray silver color shades and blotches. Her head was a dark gray and her legs had dark gray socks. Her breathing was fierce yet very strong and steady. She was well built and looked like she could fight and win from her scars, yet her eyes were kind.
This mare charged into water as she slid to a stop. She let out a neigh as she reared up high with much grace. She then called out with a friendly neigh. 'I have come from far to seek sanctuary in you home!' She then dropped to her fours as she snorted and shook her body. She was calm as she put her head down to drink. She was very fast and could outrun some of the fastest wolves or cats. She knew this because she had done it before. She could reach up to 40mph maybe more or less. She really didn't know. The only thing she would not outrun was the cheetah.
Raindance looked up toward the sky as she took a breath in. She then spoke to herself. "This is a wonderful place. I hope I can live here with others like me that are free. I can hopefully rid myself of the trust issues." She said as she walked deeper into the water. She had been running non-stop for over 32 hours. She had great stamina and still had a little left to spare too. She was now chest deep and she threw her head into the water and pulled it up again as she wet her head. She then shook her head and turned looking at the bank.
{I'll take over if your ok with that :3}
Afternoon; the most tranquil, harmonic time of day, the time at which the cream-flicked mare felt most at ease. The golden orb which illuminated the grass-carpeted earth, a deep emerald green in the midst of summer, spewed forth a continuous trail of burnished rays that cloaked the ground in a shimmering yellow-golden sheen. A cool breeze whipped through the sheaves of ripe vegetation that blanketed Freewind’s plains, rustling them eerily like waves in the aqua, jewelled ocean. The few trees scattered amongst the mare’s home plains bore luscious fruit, tender and mature, the taste exaggerated by the humid environment and the calm atmosphere. The cerulean sky, dappled here and there with wispy ivory clouds that appeared almost painted, loomed overhead.
Golden eyes bore into the heart of the horizon, examining it meticulously, constantly on guard for fear of predators. It wasn’t often if at all that she would encounter any creature that posed a threat, but instincts warranted caution. After carful study, she determined the area safe; cautiously though enthusiastically, Adene continued her meal of grass, ripping it from the soil, munching chunks of vegetation between ochre teeth and gulping the meal down voraciously.
Following a few consecutive mouthfuls, the cream mare’s head jolted upwards abruptly to observe the scene developing before her; nothing stirred. Her roused suspicion was soon replaced by a dull hunger, to which Adene swiftly obeyed.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Overhead the voice of a crow shrieked within her eardrums, the clouds which had hung so cogently above her now swelled in a sooty grey mass that threatened the harmony of the scene. The aquamarine ocean gave way to a strong navy sky which encapsulated the landscape, filling the healer with an instinctual terror, and the desire to flee to safety just as a door-mouse does when pursued by a predator. The mare raised a brow, unnerved by the unerring fear that welled up inside the pit of her chest.
A storm was approaching.
Faint cries caught her attention. 'I have come from far to seek sanctuary in you home!' Adene turned apprehensively, the faint speck that was the source of the sound indistinctly visible. The cream female trotted toward this new recruit, eager to converse.
As she approached, the stranger muttered "This is a wonderful place. I hope I can live here with others like me that are free. I can hopefully rid myself of the trust issues."
"Hello stranger" Adene began a little curiously, golden eyes surveying the ominous horse. She was a mare of greyish-blue hues, a well muscled being who appeared to be drenched to the bone, the poor thing. What might have happened to her?
"Goodness gracious, you must be freezing!" she exclaimed. "Here..." she gestured forewards with her silver-whiskered chin, "lets get you cleaned up shall we?". She had no idea who she was, or where she'd come from, though it seemed her intentions were aimiable.
Adene's maternal side never failed to show in the presence of newcomers, especially those who were in some way disadvantaged; and this case was no exception.
Reinera as hewr mother called her was still in the water to her neck at the time. Then she turned around and walked out slowly with a snort. As she did this she stopped with her ankles still in the water. Her ears twitching about, she heard a thumping sound. When her ears found it, she looked to a mare palomino in color. Very pretty.
"Hello stranger"
This female said right went she turned to face her. Rain had her ears half pinned. 'Well, now I have to try and learn to trust.' She thought as she slowly, but cautiously raised her ears forward as she stepped all the way from the water. Her power looking, yet scared body, was dripping with water as she heard the felmale speak again.
"Goodness gracious, you must be freezing! Here... lets get you cleaned up shall we?"
She jumped lightly at her quick kind words. She was a little surprised. Yet, very suspicious. It was her nature due to her horrid pasted. It was easy to tell by looking at her scars, her muscles, and sheer power in her eyes that she had been to hell and back. Surviving human wars and saber attacks. This female had a right to be weary. Right? But then again, she was being weary of her own kind too. It was unsettling. "Uh... alright then." She said in her strong feminine voice. It was deep, but saft and calm.
She stepped slowly toward this female. She still had a racing heart and slightly quick breathing. Her run she had getting here was long and non-stop. For her, it was nothing. With the humans, she was forced to run non-stop for more than 2 and a half day at times 3 if she didn't fall over first. It was brutal past for her. But, she become strong because of it and had a kind heart. "I am Reinera. Humans gave me the name Raindance." Her blind looking eyes made her appear like she was blind, however, she had great vision. It was an odd thing. The marks on her face showed she was a humans horse at one point.
Adene’s golden rues fell upon the new-comer as she timidly gestured away from her, ears half pinned to her crown. What was the reason for her nervousness? Had she said something to offend her, to cause the mare to dislike her? Adene sincerely hoped she had not done so, though for reference sake she wasn’t the greatest judge of character.
Thankfully, her apprehension evaporated as quickly as it had emerged, her ears pricking warily upwards in her direction, azure blue eyes harbouring less trepidation than before. She hoisted herself forwards, stepping boldly away from the waters’ edge.
In response Adene raised her ears invitingly, gesturing with a sway of her neck for the roan mare to approach. The healer wondered exactly where she had come from and how she’d got into the situation she was in; saturated!
At her offer to assist, the mare startled, as if spooked by her request. She could see why. Her body was blanketed with scars, her muscular, grey-blue frame coated in them. It astounded her the differences that were present within the same genus of animal.
"Uh... alright then." the mare spoke cautiously.
”There’s no need to worry” Adene assured her, snorting amicably through her finely-haired nostrils. ”I’m no threat to you”. Adene examined the wound, searching it up and down with her amber rues. They were deep, the salmon-toned flesh beneath her skin visible.
"I am Reinera. Humans gave me the name Raindance."
Adene’s ears pricked forwards at the mention of humans. She had presumed that the likelihood of conversing with another who had once dealt with the likes of humans was slim to nil, but to meet under such circumstances was downright unusual. She would be certain to investigate further some other time, but for now her priorities lie with aiding the injured Reinera.
Her mind debated against itself as to what course of action to take, as to what was best for the mare to sooth her numerous wounds. There was so much to consider; the availability of a certain substance, how high a dosage she could obtain and if in fact it would have the correct effect to correspond with her injury.
Eventually she made up her mind; Echinacea.
The mare sniffed the air diligently, trying to source a supply of the drug for her acquaintance; it was not long before she discovered a reserve of the stuff. Adene trotted towards the circular, florescent, pink-petalled flower, and ripped a healthy dosage in her jaws and heaved it up into her mouth.
”Here Reinera, take this. It’ll help fight any infection that might have developed, as well as strengthening tissue around the wound area and kill a wide variety of diseases.” she insisted, offering the Echinacea to the injured mare.
”Oh, and I am Adene. Pleasure to make your acquaintance. You are here for acceptance correct?”

Blackstar walked slowly, she had thought she was still in Freewind when she had gone on a morning trot, after leaving the free wind lands she had been chased several times by wolves. Her bright blue hooves slowly moving, and tapping the ground ahead of her, she had burs in her mane, tail, feathers and fetlock. Those sticky prickles annoyed her to the point of, well, ultimate annoyance. Amazingly the scared mare knew her way around Freewind, her hooves led her to a large tree. Where she'd reluctantly whinny, hoping someone would hear her call. The mare would lower her muzzle and graze a bit, her eyes sealed shut with sleep, and the fact she never used them. Her ears would be flicking around, if someone walked up behind her she'd probobly end up shying away from whoever it was, her thoughts turned to Merel and Angel. She would lower herself to the ground slowly and wait for someone to come, hoping it was someone she knew, it would make her life a heck of alot easier... that was for sure... The pure black mares ears would move back and forth, as she listened for anyone, someone. The cream mare woke early, amber rues slowly widening, welcoming the mare to consciousness once again. Her brisk tail swatted from side to side, gangly limbs pressing against the earth and slowly elevating her until she obtained verticality. With a yawn, wide and forceful, showing her elongated, off-whitish incisors, Adene trotted onwards in search of good grazing. Leisurely strolling through Freewind with no particular aims in mind but to graze, on alert constantly for intruders Adene sampled the air; her nostrils flared as a gust of wind, clement and pure, entered the crevices that filled the space at the tip of her muzzle. Nothing. It was a herbivores instinct to be constantly watchful, ever vigilant, for one could not always determine the location of one’s predators immediately or indeed until they chose to make themselves visible. Thank fully in her lifetime she had experienced comparatively few carnivorous beings (with the exception of course of humans, which whom she had interacted frequently with). But even then, they caused her no real harm, though exhaustion often overcame her following the long treks on which she embarked with them, most often against her will. She longed never to go back to them; she was content here, with her life and her rank. Her work kept her active and well, and the company here was much more stimulating than it was anywhere else. The mare continued at a steady pace, ears back, face against the wind, snorting occasionally to ward away a stray fly that might waft towards her. Her slate grey hooves padded against moist earth, mind alert, listening for the slightest twitches, or the rustle of the breeze, or the stir of falling leaves. A gentle whinny unnerved her. It was an ebony form that caught her attention rather abruptly, standing beside a large tree. She approached her tentatively, curious as to her motives for enroaching upon Freewind soil. "Hello miss" Adene greeted, advancing towards her. She was a black mare, with silver lines protruding from the corners of both eyes, an azure shade. Her hooves were a brilliant shade of blue, and a deep green marking adorned the side of her barrell. The mares dar ears rotated back and forth, as if listening for any evidence of an approaching body. "Are you alright?" she inquired. "Come, let me take a look at you. You seemed terrified dear" Looking her over, the mare appeared thoroughly terrified, though the reason was not evident.
