"We must not let her spirit die..."
The words still rang in her ears as she fled from the meeting. Bacchus... her mentor, more often tormentor, but the respect had been won nonetheless. The youth was determind to prove to Ukoo that she could be just as good... she could be worth something. She wanted to fill the gap, that awful empty space now left behind in the absence of the Pili Jike. Unfortunately, young and rebellious minds did not often have the greatest of ideas. She wanted to help...
She was about to fail miserably.
The young hyena's feet carried her further and further toward the edge of Ukoo land, toward the lush plains that were home to the lions. The Kijana gasped as she saw it, grass.... lots of grass... there had to be a ton more prey here. And now she understood full well why they hated lions. Why the bone were these guys living it big, when they were stuck out in the ass end of the world, fighting for their lives? If they coulda lived in a nice place like this, if these stupid simba weren't so d**ned greedy, maybe Bacchus would still be alive.
Head heated, and perhaps a little inflated, she crossed the borders. She was going to tell these d**ned lions a thing or two. Who did they think they were, anyway, shoving every other creature out into the badlands to scrape out a living? They had, like, everything here. More than enough to share! Selfish bastards. That's what they were. And she was gonna show 'em. She'd show 'em all, Ukoo wasn't gonna take their crap anymore.
She'd like, give 'em a karate chop. And a few good bites. And send them running. Yeah! That's what Bacchus would do, run in and scare them crapless. Show 'em who's boss, right?
She tossed her long bangs out of her eyes before taking up a dominant stance - one she'd seen Bacchus use so many times - and shouting off into the grasslands. "Hey! Hey you stupid lions! Getcher butts out 'ere, I wanna talk ta you!"

A typical day in Aryion.
Calm; tranquil; peaceable. The aqua sky was blurred with a thick haze that encircled the land almost constantly, diving to and fro like rippling tides cross an unending sea, with no particular aim but to keep circling in an endless dance. The golden sun illuminated the lands, having risen high above as if to peek over the horizon, attempting to claim a spot on the landscape, uniformity disrupted by its glowing presence. The few, sparse gnarled trees formed silhouettes on the horizon, conspicuous black forms stood against a deep blue, cloudless background.
The grass waved beneath her feet as the black lioness traversed the land she had come to know so vividly over the years, every step confident yet defined by a unique elegance and femininity so characteristic of herself. Off-white bangs lolled over Formula's forhead, waving slightly as her head dipped and rose consecutively, rhythmically, black ears pointed backwards. Her route was planned; she was headed for shade. The summer, though not as intense in heat as the later months did still warrant shelter. Over time she had grown accustomed to the insatiable warmth of the Savannah, but that provided no compensation for it.
Tongue rolling, head down, Formula trotted on unaware of the intruder who lurked nearby.
"Hey! Hey you stupid lions! Getcher butts out 'ere, I wanna talk ta you!"
Ears darted backwards, swerving ferociously as this outsider made her presence know. There was obviously no intent towards secretism, if anything the opposite, which made her question why she had not already been dealt with. Were there no guards standing watch? Apparently not. This exemplified the Aryionions sloth and lack of effort. Did they not wish to serve their pride?
Either way, Formula would have to face this intruder alone.
Cautiously yet proudly she strode toward the grey figure, grassland seeming to catapult wildly as if knowing of the tension collecting inside of her. Her emerald rues found themselves looking upon not the body of a Wolf as she had first anticipated, not even such as a Hunting dog, but rather the puny figure of a Hyena, fuelled by nothing more than basic instinctual urges coupled with an overflowing angst obvious from her expression alone.
Calmly, almost formally Formula approached. "Well, I'm here" she implied sarcastically, presenting herself dauntingly to the petite canine who stood before her.
"Surely you do not reckon you could take on Aryion Savannah. Are you out of your mind child?" Formula enquired, partially curious but for the most part hoping to deter her revolt. After all, she stood no chance. The lioness had a pride at her back whom she might summon is need be, and size alone denoted her victory. It was surprising the situations that these kids get themselves into.
Turning, as if concluding the confrontation Formula starkly added "Go. Now."

Afua's light brown paw pads lifted slowly, almost lazily, through the tall grass. The fully grown male was enjoying the grass swaying past him to make way for his bulk. He had no aim in particular, he was on nothing but a morning stroll. Green eyes flicking over his shoulder every now and then to watch the lighter colored cub pounce on bugs and twigs randomly.
The two brothers were inseparable, Afua was far too paranoid by the other lions to ever let Kafele out of his sight. This suited Kafele, he hated to be alone and so far he hadn't met any cubs to play with, being with Afua made him feel secure.
Kafele was trying to mimic a grown lions roar, with out much success when suddenly Afua growled, lifting his nose to the wind. "Stay here" He said to his younger brother as he began to jog away.
Kafele's light green eyes grew wide and he mimicked Afua's previous action, lifting his nose to the wind, but it took him longer to catch the scent of.. Well he didn't know what it was.. But it was different, it smelled bad. He wrinkled his nose and frowned, lowering his haunches to the ground with a huff. He hated when he had to wait.
Afua glanced over his shoulder as he left his brother to make sure he was doing as he was told, smiling to himself when he saw Kafele drop himself down with a sullen look on his face. Good boy. He thought as he began to speed up a little, he recognized the scent of hyena, he also recognized the scent of one of the queens. He had never met her formally, but he had been in Aryion long enough to know who the queens were.
He arrived a bit late to know what all was said between them, but he took a dominant stance a few meters from Formula.
"Surely you do not reckon you could take on Aryion Savannah. Are you out of your mind child?"
He didn't say anything. She would know he was here to help her drive this pest away, he only needed an order.
"Go. Now."
Afua nodded once, forcefully. His eyes were locked on the hyena, hoping that the size and hostility of the lions would scare it back to its own lands.

As the lion began striding into view, Mwasi began to realize she hadn't exactly planned past this point. And... she probably should have. No plan, and the dark figure was getting closer. And closer.
Holy crap, why had nobody told her lions were so big??
"Well, I'm here"
The youth stood gaping for a moment, trying to find words as another one seemed to pop out of nowhere. The first instinct was to run. But no... no... Bacchus wouldn't have run. She'd stand here and give 'em what's what. So, trying to get her voice to work again, she opened her mouth to speak. "Well... uh..."
"Surely you do not reckon you could take on Aryion Savannah. Are you out of your mind child?"
That was it. It wasn't a lion and a hyena now. It was a stupid adult against the kid they always tried to step on. That was a situation she was used to, and naturally her mouth began to fly ahead of her brain. "Hey, what kinda screwed up place you runnin' here? You come up talkin' like I'm crazy. You're crazy. What's so great about a stinkin' lion anyway thatchoo got all the good land and the food an' stuff, and we gotta live out in the fricken' desert with nothin' but scraps? Then you come in and we gotta pay taxes an' crap? What the hell, man??"
Ahh, so eloquent. Like a young Martin Luther King she was, oh yes.
"Go. Now."
"Hey, who you think you are givin' orders anyway? You gimme some food. Then maybe I'll go. We got nothin', you got everythin', we should be taxin' you!"
She was a political marvel, she was. Speaking out for empty bellies and oppressed hyenas everywhere! Except... with no tact and a lot of attitude. She was posturing and flipping her head like some lame kid who thinks she actually knows how it goes down on the streets when she hasn'g got a clue. She was tough, She was awesome. And she was totally gonna have these lions scared of her.
Or... so she thought.

Formula kept her two emerald rues locked on the petite hyena. Behind her approached a second figure, a male, definitely not of hyena stature. An Aryionian she assumed. Yes, she’d seen him about. A respectable male, and a paternal sibling, with a name she could not pinpoint at this second. The Empress glanced at him in greeting, the top corner of her lips rounding upwards only vaguely, trying not to remove her eyes from the hyena threat.
"Well... uh..." the hyena stuttered.
She seemed intimidated by her presence, something Formula wasn’t surprised at. She’d seen her kind before; sassy, impudent, belligerent children, the type who’d throw themselves in the deep end of the pool without so much as testing the waters to ensure that they were safe enough to swim in.
"Hey, what kinda screwed up place you runnin' here? You come up talkin' like I'm crazy. You're crazy. Then you come in and we gotta pay taxes an' crap? What the hell, man??". The dog exclaimed, thinking very highly of herself for doing so. It was obvious that she needed a serious reality check; it was fortunate that Formula was so amiable.
Formula scoffed.
Did she really even have to acknowledge that statement with a response? Formula decided to do so, but purely for the entertainment value. She chuckled delightedly.
“My dear child” she began, smirking, “how diplomatic you are. You should come to Aryion as our ambassador; we’ve been in need of one for a while now. I’m sure your amazing persuasive skills could come in handy.”
"Hey, who you think you are givin' orders anyway? You gimme some food. Then maybe I'll go. We got nothin', you got everythin', we should be taxin' you!"
It had sprung to mind before the situation the hyena’s were in, though she’d never thought of it as an issue in dire need of a resolution. If they had managed to survive this long on meagre prey and scarce water without complaint, then why bring it up now. Formula raised a brow like a parent does when suspicious of a misbehaving child.
“I think I am the one giving orders because I am the Empress; that’s why.” She tutted audibly.“Now I’m not going to get into an argument with an imbecilic youngster, so I suggest you clear off immediately. The lions 'round here might not welcome you with the same hospitality that I have done.”
That was her warning; whether she chose to heed it was none of Formula's business.
